CHELATION THERAPY

Chelation therapy is a safe, effective and relatively inexpensive treatment to restore blood flow in victims of arteriosclerosis without surgery.  Chelation therapy involves the intravenous infusion of prescription medicine called ethylene tetra-acetic acid (EDTA).

WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

Also known as a "heavy metal detox," chelation therapy is used to reverse symptoms of hardening in the arteries, also known as arteriosclerosis.  Arteriosclerosis is caused by multiple complex factors, including abnormal accumulations of metallic elements.  The end result is plaque within the arteries which blocks the flow of blood.  Plaques are composed of fibrous tissue, cholesterol, and calcium.  Arteriosclerosis can lead to heart attack, stroke, and senility and may even lead to amputation of extremities.  Every known study published over the use of chelation therapy to remedy arteriosclerosis has, without exception, described an improvement in blood flow and symptoms.  Adverse editorial comments to the contrary lack evidence and stem primarily from physicians with a vested interest in catheterization and surgery.

HOW DOES ARTERY DISEASE AFFECT YOUR HEALTH?

Blockage of blood vessels by plaque (atheroma) reduces the flow of blood, starving vital organs for oxygen and other nutrients.  Cell walls then become leaky, allowing excessive calcium, sodium and other elements to enter.  These calcifications can often be seen on x-ray. Disordered calcium metabolism can also cause coronaries and other arteries to spasm, further reducing the flow of blood to vital organs.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED CHELATION THERAPY?

If you have chest pain, leg pain (while walking), shortness of breath, painful discolored feet, transient loss of vision, paralysis, or rapidly failing memory, you will likely see significant benefits from the administration of chelation therapy.  Any unexplained or persistent symptoms which affect your heart, head or limbs should be further explored by a physician for evidence of circulatory blockage.

HOW DOES CHELATION THERAPY AFFECT HEALTH?

Chelation therapy promotes health by correcting the major underlying cause of arterial blockage.  Damaged oxygen-free radicals are increased by the presence of metallic elements and as a chronic irritant to blood vessel walls and cell membranes.  EDTA removes those metallic irritants, allowing leaky and damaged cell walls to heal.  Arterial walls become softer and more pliable, allowing easier expansion.  Scientific studies have proven that blood flow increases after chelation therapy, and this therapy can be used to supplement a broad-based health care program involving the elimination of tobacco and other damaging habits as well as engaging in regular exercise.

WHAT IS THE COST COMPARISON?

Bypass surgery is the mechanical repair of only a small portion of the arterial tree.  Total costs for this procedure average about $45,000 and can be as high as $60,000+.  Chelation therapy is an office treatment which improves blood flow throughout the entire vascular system at a fraction of the cost of bypass surgery. For example, a patient undergoing 20-40 hours of chelation therapy could expect a bill between $2,000-4,000, over $30,000 less than a bypass surgery.

SAFETY AND SIDE EFFECTS

Chelation therapy is among the safest of medical procedures.  More than 400,000 patients have received over four million treatments in the past 30 years.  No deaths have been directly caused by chelation therapy when administered properly by a physician who was fully trained and competent in the use of this therapy.  Possible side effects of the therapy include: vein irritation, mild pain, headache and fatigue.  Occasionally, a mild transient fever occurs. These and other minor side effects, if they occur, are easily controlled by adjusting the duration and frequency of treatment or with the use of other simple measures.  Side effects tend to diminish after the first few treatments.  Most patients will experience few or no side effects.

HOW WILL I BE ABLE TO TELL IF CHELATION THERAPY HELPED ME?

Patients routinely report reduction or elimination of their symptoms with an increasing sense of well-being after chelation therapy.  Family and friends are often the first to notice and report improvement in appearance, behavior and performance.  Comparison of pre- and post-therapy diagnostic tests can provide objective evidence of the effectiveness.

CAN MY PERSONAL PHYSICIAN GIVE THIS TREATMENT?

Any licensed physician can legally administer this treatment.  Courses to train physicians in the safe use of chelation therapy are offered twice each year by the American College for Advancement in Medicine.

CAN CHELATION THERAPY BE USED AFTER BYPASS SURGERY?

Yes! Although chelation therapy is best utilized to avoid bypass surgery, many patients who have previously undergone one or more bypass procedures, often with little or no benefit, have subsequently benefitted greatly from chelation therapy.  Treatment for each patient must be individualized. If all else fails, including chelation therapy, bypass still remains available as a last resort.

IS CHELATION THERAPY A LEGAL TREATMENT?

Yes! Chelation therapy is completely legal.  A licensed physician is free to utilize any therapy of acceptable risk which in his or her professional judgment is of potential benefit, even if advertising claims for treatment are not yet approved by the FDA.  The FDA does not regulate the practice of medicine but only limits marketing and advertising claims for drugs. The FDA has approved the marketing claims for the use of EDTA to treat lead poisoning and several other conditions.  Treatments of atherosclerosis is not yet an allowable claim for inclusion in the marketing literature of EDTA.

 

OXIDATIVE THERAPY

Oxidation is the process through which the body converts sugar into energy.  The body also uses oxidation as the first line of defense against bacteria, viruses, yeast and parasites.  Even breathing oxygen for more than a few seconds can have serious ​consequences that follow. Without oxidation, we would die very quickly.  When we use the principles of oxidation to bring about improvements in the body, the therapeutic process is known as oxidative therapy.

WHAT SUBSTANCES ARE USED IN OXIDATIVE THERAPY?

A number of substances are known to cause oxidation in the body, but the most important of these is hydrogen peroxide.  Although it is a naturally-produced substance ​in the body, it is still considered a drug when used in oxidative therapy. Hydrogen peroxide, when exposed to blood or other body fluids containing the enzyme catalase, is chemically split into oxygen and water.  Remember how hydrogen peroxide foams when you put it on a wound? The foam is oxygen being produced by the action of catalase on hydrogen peroxide.  A small amount of hydrogen peroxide can supple large amounts of oxygen to the tissue.

HOW DOES IT WORK IN THE BODY?

There are many theories regarding the different functions of hydrogen peroxide in the body.  There is also a great deal of scientific material to support each function.  Hydrogen peroxide is produced in the body in different amounts for different purposes.  It is part of a system that helps you use the oxygen you breathe and helps your body regulate all living cell membranes.  It is also a hormonal regulator, necessary to helping your body produce several hormonal substances such as estrogen, progesterone and thyroid.  It is also important in the regulation of blood sugar and the production of energy in all cells.​  Hydrogen peroxide helps regulate certain chemicals necessary to operate the brain and nervous systems.  It is also vital to regulating the body's immune system and helping the body defend against bacteria, viruses, yeast and parasites.  Scientists have discovered the function of hydrogen peroxide in the body is far more complex and important than previously realized.

WHAT CONDITIONS ARE BEING TREATED WITH OXIDATIVE THERAPY?

The list of uses for oxidative therapy is growing constantly as physicians around the world learn more about this particular treatment.  Currently, oxidative therapy can be used to treat a variety of conditions including the following heart and blood vessel diseases, infectious diseases, and autoimmune disorders​:

  • Peripheral vascular disease (poor circulation)

SAFETY AND SIDE EFFECTS

Over the past 50 years, hundreds of patients have received hydrogen peroxide without reporting serious side effects. Early use was noted to occasionally cause irritation of the vein being infused.  This troublesome side effect was eliminated after the concentration and rate of infusion were adjusted.  The IBOM foundation publishes and distributes a protocol on the proper administration of hydrogen peroxide.  A protocol is one way for physicians to properly learn about any new therapy. Also, regular training workshops are offered to ensure the highest level of therapeutic expertise possible.

IS THIS THERAPY EXPENSIVE?

Expense is a relative term. People with chronic diseases pay thousands of dollars annually to physicians, pharmacies, and hospitals for drugs and therapies that do a little more than maintain them at their current level of sickness. If oxidative therapy could save you half of your current expenses, would you consider that expensive? Much of today's medical cost is in the testing rather than the treatment.  Don't be afraid to ask in advance about the cost.

DOES MY INSURANCE PAY FOR OXIDATIVE THERAPY?

This usually depends on your insurance company and type of policy.  Generally, insurance companies will not pay for medical service or care that they may classify as "not usual or customary."  This is because the average physician is not using oxidative therapy and most are not familiar with the therapy.

HOW IS THE THERAPY ADMINISTERED?

Weak, very pure hydrogen peroxide (0.0375% or lower concentration) is added to a sugar or salt water solution.  The same is used for intravenous feedings in hospitals.  This is injected in doses from 50 to 500ml into a large vein, usually in the arm, slowly over a period of 1 to 3 hours depending on the amount given and the condition of the patient.  Treatments are usually given about once a week in chronic illnesses, but can be given daily in patients with acute illnesses, such as pneumonia or influenza. Physicians may recommend 1 to 20 treatments depending on the condition of the patient and the illness being treated.  The patient is rechecked usually in 1 to 3 months to reevaluate and determine if additional treatments may be necessary.  Some patients, especially with chronic illness, may need to take follow up treatments in a series of 5 to 19 additional treatments or may need to maintain a definite monthly treatment schedule. As many as 50 treatments have been administered to several patients without complications.  An experienced physician must decide how many treatments are necessary in each individual case.

ASCORBATE THERAPY

WHAT IS ASCORBATE THERAPY?

Ascorbate therapy involves the administration of a high dose of Vitamin C through intravenous application.

Vitamin C (also called L-ascorbic acid or ascorbate) is a nutrient that humans must get from food or dietary supplements since it cannot be made in the body. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and helps prevent oxidative stress. It also works with enzymes to play a key role in making collagen. When taken by intravenous (IV) infusion, vitamin C can reach much higher levels in the blood than when it is taken by mouth. Studies suggest that these higher levels of vitamin C may cause the death of cancer cells in the laboratory. A severe deficiency (lack) of vitamin C in the diet causes scurvy, a disease with symptoms of extreme weakness, lethargy, easy bruising, and bleeding. The lack of vitamin C in patients with scurvy makes collagen thinner in texture; when vitamin C is given, collagen becomes thicker again.

 

HOW DOES HIGH-DOSE VITAMIN C HELP TREAT CANCER?

 

High-dose vitamin C has been studied as a treatment for patients with cancer since the 1970s. A Scottish surgeon named Ewan Cameron worked with Nobel Prize-winning chemist Linus Pauling to study the possible benefits of vitamin C therapy in clinical trials of cancer patients in the late 1970s and early 1980's.

Surveys of healthcare practitioners at United States CAM conferences in recent years have shown that high-dose IV vitamin C is frequently given to patients as a treatment for infections, fatigue, and cancers, including breast cancer. More than fifty years ago, a study suggested that cancer was a disease of changes in connective tissue caused by a lack of vitamin C. In the 1970's, it was proposed that high-dose ascorbic acid could help build resistance to disease or infection and possibly treat cancer."

 

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS AND RISKS OF HIGH-DOSE VITAMIN C?

 

Intravenous high-dose ascorbic acid has caused very few side effects in clinical trials. However, high-dose vitamin C may be harmful in patients with certain risk factors. In patients with a history of kidney disorders, kidney failure has been reported after ascorbic acid treatment. Patients with a tendency to develop kidney stones should not be treated with high-dose vitamin C. Case reports have shown that patients with an inherited disorder called G-6-PD deficiency should not be given high doses of vitamin C, due to the risk of hemolysis (a condition in which red blood cells are destroyed). Since vitamin C may make iron more easily absorbed and used by the body, high doses of the vitamin are not recommended for patients with hemochromatosis (a condition in which the body takes up and stores more iron than it needs).

WHAT DRUGS INTERACT WITH HIGH-DOSE VITAMIN C?

A drug interaction is a change in the way a drug acts in the body when taken with certain other drugs. High-dose vitamin C, when combined with some anticancer drugs, may cause them to be less effective. So far, these effects have been seen only in some laboratory and animal studies. No clinical trials have been done to further research these drug interactions in humans. Combining vitamin C with an anticancer drug called bortezomib has been studied in cell cultures and in animal models. Bortezomib is a targeted therapy that blocks several molecular pathways in a cell, causing cancer cells to die. Several studies showed that vitamin C given by mouth made bortezomib less effective, including in multiple myelomacells. A study in mice transplanted with human prostate cancer cells, however, did not show that giving the mice different doses of vitamin C by mouth made bortezomib therapy less effective.

An oxidized form of vitamin C called dehydroascorbic acid has been studied in cell cultures and in animals with tumors. Several studies have found that high doses of dehydroascorbic acid can interfere with the anticancer effects of several chemotherapy drugs. Dehydroascorbic acid is found in only small amounts in dietary supplements and in fresh foods.

WHAT RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THE BENEFITS OF HIGH-DOSE VITAMIN C?

Several studies of high-dose vitamin C in patients with cancer have been done in recent years, including the following:

  • Intravenous (IV) vitamin C was studied in patients with breast cancer who were treated with adjuvant chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The study found that patients who received IV vitamin C had better quality of life and fewer side effects than those who did not.

  • A study of IV vitamin C and high doses of vitamin C taken by mouth was done in patients with cancer that could not be cured. Vitamin C was shown to be a safe and effective therapy to improve quality of life in these patients, including physical, mental, and emotional functions, symptoms of fatigue, nausea and vomiting, pain, and appetite loss.

  • Vitamin C has been shown to be safe when given to healthy volunteers and cancer patients at doses up to 1.5 g/kg, while screening out patients with certain risk factors who should avoid vitamin C. Studies have also shown that Vitamin C levels in the blood are higher when taken by IV than when taken by mouth, and last for more than 4 hours.

  • Studies of vitamin C combined with other drugs

  • Studies of vitamin C combined with other drugs have shown mixed results:

  • In a small study of 14 patients with advanced pancreatic cancer, IV vitamin C was given along with chemotherapy and treatment with a targeted therapy. Patients had very few bad side effects from the vitamin C treatment. The nine patients who completed the treatment had stable disease as shown by imaging studies.

  • In another small study of 9 patients with advanced pancreatic cancer, patients were given chemotherapy in treatment cycles of once per week for 3 weeks along with IV vitamin C twice per week for 4 weeks. These patients had disease that did not progress for a period of months. The combined treatment was well tolerated and no serious side effects were reported.

  • In a 2014 study of 27 patients with advanced ovarian cancer, treatment with chemotherapy alone was compared to chemotherapy along with IV vitamin C. Patients who received IV vitamin C along with chemotherapy had fewer serious side effects from the chemotherapy.

  • Patients with refractory metastatic colorectal cancer or metastatic melanoma treated with IV vitamin C combined with other drugs had serious side effects, the disease got worse, and there was no anticancer effect. These studies were not controlled with a comparison group so it is unclear how much the IV vitamin C contributed to the side effects.

 

More studies of combining high-dose IV vitamin C with other drugs are in progress.

 

IS HIGH-DOSE VITAMIN C APPROVED BY THE FDA FOR CANCER TREATMENT?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved the use of high-dose vitamin C as a treatment for cancer or any other medical condition.

 

OZONE THERAPY

WHAT IS OZONE THERAPY?
Ozone is a colorless gas made up of three oxygen atoms. It is used as an alternative therapy to improve the body's intake and use of oxygen and to activate the immune system. In medicine, ozone therapy is used to disinfect and treat diseases by limiting the effects of bacteria, viruses, fungi, yeast, and protozoa.
Ozone is used in IV form, or direct injection form such as prolozone therapy.

 

IS OZONE IV THERAPY SAFE?
Ozone IV therapy is administered using a high dose 10-pass treatment program. Ten passes ozone treatment, or ten times the treatment of a single pass, can be given within 60-90 minutes by using a special ozone machine. The 10-pass is a very powerful and safe treatment. It is used to treat:
